Proportion comes first
Divide the face into halves and thirds. The eyes always sit on the vertical midline of the head โ correcting this one mistake makes faces look right almost immediately.
Start with the side profile
A side face is the easiest because symmetry is not an issue. Work in this order: side, then three-quarter, then front.
Shading creates depth
In henna, depth comes from line density. Close lines read as dark areas, spaced lines as light. Leaving negative space matters as much as filling it.
Working from a client photo
