Arabic vs Indian Mehndi: What's the Real Difference?

The difference between the two most popular styles โ€” and when to use each.

Indian style

Dense, detailed, covering the whole hand. Fine lines, jaali, motifs and figures. It takes longer โ€” which makes it ideal for bridal work.

Arabic style

Bold strokes, flowing vines and negative space. It is quicker to draw and reads clearly from a distance โ€” perfect for guests and functions.

Which to offer when

  • Bridal booking โ†’ Indian, with figures
  • Sangeet or mehndi guests โ†’ Arabic
  • A client short on time โ†’ Arabic
  • A photography-heavy event โ†’ Arabic with negative space

Both styles are covered in detail in Module 3 of the Basic Course.
