How to Price Your Mehndi Work Without Undercharging

Time, materials, travel and skill โ€” a pricing formula that gets you a fair rate.

Most new artists charge too little for one simple reason: they do not know their own costs. Pricing is not emotion. It is arithmetic.

The four inputs

  • Time โ€” the hours the design actually takes
  • Materials โ€” cones, henna, oil and consumables
  • Travel โ€” getting there, getting back, and waiting time
  • Skill premium โ€” the value of your experience and portfolio

A simple starting formula

(Hourly rate ร— hours) + material cost + travel cost = base price. Then add your skill premium as a percentage on top โ€” zero percent for a beginner, twenty for intermediate, fifty or more for advanced portrait work.

Bridal packages

A bridal booking is never just the bride's design. Family members, guests and multiple functions should each be separate line items. Build a package rather than quoting per hand.

Never do these

  • Free bridal work in the name of building a portfolio
  • Pricing below a competitor simply because they are cheaper
  • Blocking a date without taking an advance
  • Treating travel time as free

Open the Pricing Calculator, work out your number โ€” and then hold that number.
